Newborn Photo Shoot: What to Expect at your Newborn Portrait Session!

Bringing a new life into the world is a joyous and exciting event, and many parents want to capture this special moment in time with beautiful photographs. Choosing your Right Newborn Photographer

The first step in planning a newborn photo shoot is to find a skilled and experienced photographer. You want someone who specializes in newborn photography and has a portfolio that showcases their style and expertise. When searching for a newborn photographer, look for someone who is patient, gentle, and has experience in safely handling newborns. Choosing the Right Time

Newborn photo shoots are best done when the baby is between 5-14 days old. This is because newborns are most sleepy and flexible during this time, which allows for the best and most natural posing. It is usually best to book in for your due date with a photographer a few months in advance, as many time we book up quickly. It is then essential to notify your photographer of babies arrival within a couple days, to schedule your photo shoot as soon as possible after your baby is born. This will ensure that you get a spot scheduled into the studio and that the shoot is done when your baby is at the optimal age for photography.

Preparing for your Newborn Photo Shoot

Before your photo shoot, it’s essential to prepare both yourself and your baby. I send all my new parents a detailed Prep Guide to help them prepare for their Newborn Photo Shoot. Here are a few tips from my guide that help make the experience as smooth and comfortable as possible:

• Make sure that your baby is well-fed before the shoot. A full belly will help keep them asleep and relaxed during the shoot.
• Dress your baby in simple and comfortable clothing that is easy to remove. If baby is sleeping soundly, we want something easy to remove that won’t wake them too much.
• Plan to spend 2-3 hours at the studio for the photo shoot. Newborn photography can be time-consuming, and you want to ensure that your photographer has enough time to capture all the beautiful shots.
• Make sure that you bring any props or special items that you would like to use in the photographs, such as a special blanket, hat, or toy… but also know we have everything that is needed in studio for beautiful photos too.
• Plan to bring a pacifier or bottle for your baby in case they get fussy during the shoot.

At Your Newborn Photo Shoot

During your Newborn Photo Shoot at my Prince George Studio, I will work with you to create a variety of poses and setups. We will use props, backdrops, and lighting to create a beautiful and natural look for your photographs. We always will handle your baby with care and ensure that they are comfortable and safe at all times. We will also work with you to ensure that you are happy with the final results and that you get the photographs that you desire.  You can pick your props and accessories… or if you just love everything you have seen in my Newborn Photo Portfolio and trying to match props and colors sounds exhausting.. then leave it to me! With a little color preference direction, I can design a beautiful Newborn photo shoot for you, that will achieve a gorgeous gallery of memorable photos.

After the Shoot

After the photo shoot, I will hand edit the images, and then provide you with a selection of final photographs to choose from. I can also also provide you with guidance on how to print and display the photos in your home. I have many samples of gorgeous products on hand at my Prince George Photography studio. I offer luxury items such as timeless, archival albums, beautiful wood mounted wall art, little Brag Books and more.
